The Barnston Bowl

Saturday 6th September saw Nodstock 2, Night of the Long Knives [unofficial] turn into another fantastic evening of Nod The Dog entertainment. Casey Steamer had set the stage at the Barnston Bowl for a rock ‘n’ roll reunion of the Nodstock heroes, featuring a ‘battle of the bands’ between The Dog’s Bollox and The de LeZ trio. But alas, de LeZ was unable to attend - It was rumoured that the Pressdatin maestro had been tied up with his sheep, or it might have been tied up by his sheep, the story isn’t clear.

Undeterred by the absence of de LeZ, the Dog’s Bollox continued with their usual high-energy rock and blues set, which featured some extended lead guitar improvisation from Otis Vaters and the Legend Ned K. Bad Boy Keefy, minus his mum’s headscarf, excelled himself and surely gained the title of “The World’s Most Impressive Drummer On An Iccle Kit”.

The Bollox were then joined by guest vocalist Mamma B, who sang stunning renditions of Runaway and Little Wing. The finale featured a superb version of Maria in which Mamma B and the band had the audience dancing in the aisles. Shouts for ‘more!’ could be heard the length and breadth of Barnston, and it was with gusto that the Dog’s Bollox returned to the stage and hammered out Voodoo Chile (slight similarity).

After the gig, the highlight of the evening was when the Dog’s Bollox were presented to Lord and Lady Lee of Barnston. It turned out that Lord Lee has a very impressive collection of guitars and was keen to show them off to Otis Vaters. Lady Lee was so taken by the Bollox that she has expressed a desire to have them perform in the ballroom of Barnston Hall. A date has yet to be set, but watch this space for news of a Dog’s Bollox night with the posh people!

A new name for Tarquin?

Tarquin who?

Bass player with The Dog’s Bollox, known and loved by everyone as Tarquin Fartquhar, has been shattered by the news that the Peyote clan of Farquhars are to sue for improper use of a surname. Naturally, Tarquin is anxious not to offend and has decided to change his name by deed poll. So keen is he to choose the correct new surname that he has invited Nod The Dog fans to suggest one for him.

Suggestions for Tarquin’s new surname can be posted to Nod’s guest book or emailed to:

 tarquin@nodthedog.co.uk

The winning idea will be chosen at the end of the month.

Has LeZ lost his "de"?

Just plain LeZ from now on?

The name games continue as in a mood of bitter disappointment at de LeZ’s failure to attend the Barnston Bowl, the Legend Ned K pronounced him minus his “de” and stated that from now on he should be called simply “LeZ”. Rock chick groupies Lesley and Lesley agreed with Ned K, and Les told Les that de LeZ would now be just LeZ.

The Pressdatin genius retorted that Ned K would soon be minus his ‘Legend’ if he continued to underestimate the pure talent from North Wales, and that he should watch out for repercussions! The bitter rivalry seems set to continue for some time. Watch this space…..

Clairvoyance?

Eye Pye demonstrating the 'monkey trance'

There were spooky happenings after the Barnston Bowl gig when well renowned psychic and rock chick groupie Eye Pye fell into one of her famous 'monkey' trances. During the phenomenon, Eye Pye predicted that Tarquin's new name would have several letters of the alphabet ordered in an unusual way, and that de LeZ would make a rash investment. Hmmm......
