NODSTOCK 2003!

Momentous Occasion

Saturday 9th August turned into one of the most exciting events of the century when the grounds of Greasby Antitheatre played host to a Nod The Dog celebrity concert. The star studded evening featured all of the best loved Nod The Dog superstars including; Otis Vaters, Bad Boy Keefy, Tarquin Fartquhar, The legend Ned K, Ian from Imjis, Mamma B, and the one and only de LeZ!!!!

The scene outside the theatre almost resembled a blockbuster movie premiere. Among the crowd were hoards of frenzied women who had heard that de LeZ was topping the bill, and the excited crowd welcomed each of the arriving stars with shouts and applause.

Tarquin Fartquhar in his England kit

Tarquin Fartquhar, bass player with The Dog's Bollox was first to arrive, and had turned up dressed as Gary Lineker complete with full England football kit, and sporting a broad grin. He almost managed  the ears too!

Anonymity

Ian from Imjis preserved his anonymity by arriving via the back door. Ian admitted he was a big fan of de LeZ, and hinted at a possible collaboration in the pipeline.

The crowd gasped in unison as Bad Boy Keefy arrived wearing a stars and stripes bandana, shorts, and white knee high socks. He acknowledged the crowd and then rushed in to tune his kit.

The Legend

The legend that is Ned K!

The Legend Ned K was all business as he marched straight past the crowd and proceeded on to the stage. Humbled at being on the same bill as de LeZ he wanted to make sure everything was perfect and spent an anxious time setting up.

Mamma B arrived fashionably late and in typical high spirits, greeted everybody as though they were long lost friends, which in fact most of them were!

On With The Show

Otis Vaters - one of the Dog's Bollox!

Otis Vaters and The Dog's Bollox opened the show with versions of That'll Be The Day, Paranoid and Purple Haze before being joined on stage by Mamma B who belted out a superb rendition of Little Wing.

The dogs were then joined by the incredible de LeZ who accompanied the band with an extended version of Psycho Killer, in which the Legend Ned K proved his mastery of the electric guitar - his fingers were like a blur all over the fretboard!

Surprise?

The evening almost came to a halt when Bad Boy Keefy's mum turned up. It turned out that the drummer's bandana was actually her favourite headscarf, and he had borrowed it without permission. Snatching it from his head the matriarch led the sheepish percussionist out of the theatre by his ear.

There then followed a moment of panic when the band realised they didn't have a drummer. But all was saved when Casey Steamer stood up in the audience and announced he had been studying Bad Boy Keefy's technique for years, and what's more, would not require a bandana!

More!

The evening continued with a rip roaring version of Whole Lotta Rosie - the likes of which had never been heard before. Everybody agreed that a new Nod The Dog star had been born. Casey Steamer seems set to take a regular spot behind the skins.

Genius

The stage was then set for a de LeZ solo spot in which everbody looked on in awe at the genius from the Pressdatin studios. In typical de LeZ style, he soon had the audience eating out of his hand as he launched into a unique version of The Thrill Has Gone.

de LeZ then invited Ian from Imjis, and Casey Steamer to join him for a unique live rendition of Like A Hurricane. In order to keep his identity a secret, Ian played with his back to the audience, and de LeZ sensing the occasion joined him. Casey Steamer was obviously thrilled to be playing in the grand finale with two of his Nod The Dog heroes and grinned from ear to ear as he paradiddled till his heart was content.

After the show

The after gig party was celebrated in true rock 'n' roll style with typical excess and raucousness. Wine glasses were smashed as the famous rock chicks got carried away with the excitement, and copious amounts of extra strong lager were downed.

The event was a huge success, and plans are already underway for a reunion gig. Casey Steamer has expressed a desire to host the next gig at the Barnston Bowl, so it could be sooner rather than later!
