Guitar & Vocals with The Dog's Bollox! |
Born in a two up two down terraced house in Liverpool, Otis’s earliest memories are not of nighttime visits to the outside privy in the freezing winter, but of Granny Dean accompanying the regular community sing-a-long on the piano. This was a formative time, in which Otis soon learned the value of music.
At ten years old Otis got his first guitar, and soon afterwards his fingertips started bleeding from trying to play it. His mum had purchased it from ‘Anne’s Market’ for the princely sum of £5, and little more than a toy, it had been strung with what appeared to be chicken wire.
Undeterred, Otis (inspired by The New Seekers) begged, stole, and borrowed, and eventually ordered a Kay Les Paul copy electric guitar with a 5 watt practice amp from his mum’s catalogue. Following brief flirtations with an Ibanez Blazer, and a Tokai Goldstar Vintage Strat, Otis settled on an American Standard Stratocaster – the start of a love affair that continues to this day.
Listening to Otis play, it becomes apparent that his influences are drawn from the great Stratocaster heroes including; Mark Knopfler, Eric Clapton, and Jimi Hendrix - although his singing style owes more to Frank Sidebottom.
